Production and Publishing Operations
The Production and Publishing Operations Department manages the preparation of approved manuscripts for publication in print and digital formats.
Once a work has completed the required editorial and academic stages, the Department coordinates its technical and production development. This includes copyediting, proofreading, typesetting, page design, reference and style checks, preparation of publication files, and final quality control.
The Department works across books, monographs, journals, edited volumes, reports, translations, and other scholarly publications issued by AQIRI. Its responsibility is to ensure that each work is prepared consistently, accurately, and in accordance with the Institute’s editorial and publishing standards.
Department Responsibilities
The Department plans and coordinates the production of approved publications from final manuscript to release.
Production schedules are developed according to the nature of the publication, editorial requirements, author corrections, design work, and intended print or digital format.
Approved manuscripts are reviewed for language, consistency, academic style, spelling, punctuation, and presentation before final publication.
Proofreading is undertaken at the later stages of production to identify remaining errors and ensure that the final text reflects approved editorial corrections.
The Department prepares manuscripts for publication through appropriate formatting, typesetting, typography, page composition, and layout.
Particular attention is given to headings, footnotes, references, tables, figures, transliteration, and other elements that require consistent treatment across scholarly publications.
Publication files are checked for consistency in citation style, bibliographic presentation, transliteration, author information, and other scholarly details.
Where publications contain specialised Arabic, Urdu, Persian, or other textual material, appropriate conventions are applied according to the requirements of the publication.
The Department prepares final publication files for the formats in which a work will appear.
This may include print-ready files, digital editions, journal articles, online publication files, archival copies, and material required for AQIRI’s publishing platforms and distribution processes.
Before release, publications undergo a final production review to confirm that approved corrections have been incorporated and that the text, layout, references, graphics, and publication information are complete and technically sound.
Only after these checks is a publication cleared for its next stage of print, digital publication, or distribution.
Working Across the Publishing Process
Production and Publishing Operations works closely with the Editorial and Acquisitions Department once a manuscript has been approved for production.
The Department also coordinates, where required, with authors, editors, designers, digital publishing personnel, printers, and other specialists involved in preparing the final publication.
Editorial decisions remain distinct from production responsibilities. The Department’s principal role is to translate an approved scholarly work into a coherent and professionally prepared publication.
Publication Standards
AQIRI seeks consistency across its scholarly publications while recognising the different requirements of books, journals, translations, and other academic works.
Production standards therefore cover typography, citation and reference presentation, transliteration, tables and illustrations, publication information, file quality, and the general readability and presentation of the finished work.
